Brill support / macOS 15 and later
Back to
making things.
A few quick fixes. A real email when you need one.
Availability
The free Mac App Store release is in preparation. We will add the store link to Brill’s homepage when it is available.
Make a recording
- Choose a screen, app window, or custom desktop area.
- Enable System audio, Microphone, or Webcam as needed.
- Click Start recording, adjust the frame and preset, then press Return. Your selected countdown runs before capture starts.
- Use the floating controls to pause, resume, or stop. The finished MP4 saves to Downloads.
While Brill is running, ⌘⇧S opens recording setup from another app.
The video shows the wrong screen or app
Window capture stays attached to one chosen window and records that app’s audio. Screen capture or My Custom Section records what is visible inside the selected desktop region, even when you switch apps. Check the source caption before starting.
Chrome tabs are not separate macOS capture sources. Select the Chrome window containing your tab and keep the crop inside that window. Refresh sources if an app or window has recently opened or closed.
There is no sound
Turn on System audio before starting and make sure the selected app is playing sound. For your voice, turn on Microphone as well. Check System Settings → Privacy & Security for the corresponding capture permissions.
A selected window captures that app’s audio, not audio from every other app. Protected content may restrict capture. Record a short test before an important take; sound that was never recorded cannot be restored from a silent video.
Add picture-in-picture
Enable Webcam and grant Camera permission when requested. For screen and area recordings, move and resize the camera panel to fit your composition. Its controls offer seven camera looks and a hide option. Camera video is optional; you can record without it.
Adding webcam PiP uses desktop-area capture so the camera panel can appear in the video. Keep sensitive windows outside your selected region.
Screen, camera, or microphone permission is off
Open System Settings → Privacy & Security. Enable Brill under Screen & System Audio Recording, and enable Microphone or Camera only for features you use. Reopen the app if macOS asks. Older development installations may appear as Pixel Screen Recorder.
4K motion feels slow
Choose an app window for a single-app recording. Use 4K instead of Native if your display is larger than 4K. Choose 30 fps for more rendering headroom or the Game preset for 1080p/30. Turning off unnecessary webcam filters can also reduce work.
4K/60 capture adds work to the scene already running. The source must render smoothly itself; Brill cannot create missing frames. Check a short saved take at the intended playback speed.
Where is my video?
Finished videos are in Downloads. Click the saved-video preview to play, or choose Show last recording in Finder. If saving fails, follow the app’s recovery message before deleting temporary recording segments.
Sharing on X or elsewhere
Keep the original 4K MP4 as your master. Try the Share preset for a smaller H.264/AAC file at 30 fps, or Vertical for 1080 × 1920. Sharing services may resize or recompress uploads independently of Brill.
